I grew up hating my name. This is probably a sentiment that many, especially those in the Indian American community (there is even a book/film about it), can attest to. It’s was tough going to a school where the majority of people had “white names” whereas I was stuck with a name that non-Indians couldn’t pronounce correctly. Awk-shay most people would say even though it was actually meant to be Ak-shay. (I’m no linguist but I think the difference is between a short and long ‘a’ sound?) I eventually started introducing myself differently based on a person’s ethnicity… to Indian folks I was Ak-shay and everyone else I was Awk-shay—this was only awkward when both worlds mixed and my Indian friends would give me a sly smirk signaling to me that they knew of my deception.
dude this is SOML………must read namesake

hi so i’ve reached this number. it made me realize that i’ve never really ASKED people to follow me/cared about how many followers I’ve had. I still don’t quite understand why people make personal blogs and then create posts like “173,988 followers…..lets get those last 12 guys!” WHY? It’s your personal blog.
i was just telling my friend I wish my blog was more insightful/inspiring or something. then i realized that I can control that by going out and doing magical things/feeling invincible/like a teenager. my adolescence is dwindling and real responsibility looms over the horizon. things seem to be falling into focus, but I wish they wouldn’t. there are still things i want to get done during a high school summer. yes——things i read in a chick lit book or saw in a romcom movie but STILL…the moment wouldn’t be fake if i lived it, would it?
